Their special tale involves initial (but failed) negotiation attempts for Jack's cow, including "talcum powder and some fine mineral oil." It is endearing to hear Tiernan name these items during daylight hours, many times while holding out small sticks or rocks to represent the items for trade.
It seems that almost everything we do can have reference to Jack and the Beanstalk.
Tonight, I made lentils for dinner. Tiernan decided that the lentils were actually
magic beans.
"You don't eat magic beans," he instructed the dog,
holding a few between his fingers.
He then told me that he needed to throw them out the back
window, so that he could climb up the beanstalk "into the sky"
tomorrow.
