...for your Love

Instead of nap time today, there was sibling-bonding-time in the bedroom.

This consisted of Tiernan climbing in and out of Colette's crib to join her in her new favorite game: "Tsump!"

Observation

Tiernan, holding his finger, "Yook, Mama! My fingah is alloe! I squeezed it, and it's alloe!"

 ... [releasing his finger] ...

Oh! Yook! Now it's wed aden!"

[cue a brief, simplified lesson on capillary refill]

His response: "But I don't see the bwud."

Joining the Kid-isms

We will be hearing more from our rising star, 14 month-old Colette. She can now say all of our names--even her older brother's, beginning today: "Tin-din!"

I found her in their bedroom, her finger pointed up at Tiernan, shaking her head, making short, sharp vocalizations, "Row! Whoa!"

"Who are you? The little boss?" I asked her.

In response, she ran to hug my legs, with her head between them, laughing.

She's still got a bit of stage fright, I suppose.

Early Lessons

We were out today, and when we arrived home, I came into the house with Colette a few minutes after Tiernan.

He greeted me with the announcement, "I didn' touch the med-sin. I juss put the lid upside-down to my mouf."

"How many did you take?" I asked, cautiously, noting the blue tubular container on the floor.

"I dunno."

{sigh}
At least he learned one key technique in homeopathy...

Tee-vee

Tiernan, showing me his empty bowl, "Look, Mama. I finished my oatmeal. Now I can have some tee-vee."

"You want T.V.? What are you talking about? We don't even have a T.V."

It took me a few minutes before I cut up a kiwi for him.

Jack and the Beanstalk

This story is Tiernan's latest obsession. Colin narrates a complex, increasingly intricate version of the plot every night while they both lie in Tiernan's bed.
Their special tale involves initial (but failed) negotiation attempts for Jack's cow, including "talcum powder and some fine mineral oil." It is endearing to hear Tiernan name these items during daylight hours, many times while holding out small sticks or rocks to represent the items for trade.

It seems that almost everything we do can have reference to Jack and the Beanstalk.

Tonight, I made lentils for dinner. Tiernan decided that the lentils were actually magic beans.

"You don't eat magic beans," he instructed the dog, holding a few between his fingers.

He then told me that he needed to throw them out the back window, so that he could climb up the beanstalk "into the sky" tomorrow.
